How fees work

Plain answers before you book, in the order people ask them. We print no price here: the fee depends on the visit and your plan, and you see it in writing first.

  • Insurance we work with

We are in network with many PPO plans that include an acupuncture benefit, and with some EPO and point-of-service plans. Plans differ and change each year, so we check yours before you come in.

    • Many PPO plans with an acupuncture benefit

    • Some EPO and point-of-service plans

    • Car crash and workers' compensation claims: call us and we check what the claim covers

    • Medicaid benefits for acupuncture vary by state, so ask before you book

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at the visit by card. The fee depends on the length and kind of visit, and we quote it in writing before you come. Many health savings and flexible spending cards work for acupuncture; ask your plan administrator.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

If we are out of network with your plan, we give you an itemized receipt after each visit, called a superbill, that you may send to your plan. Your plan decides whether and how much it reimburses.

    • Is there an out-of-network acupuncture benefit?

    • How many visits does it allow?

    • Is there a copay or a deductible?

    • Do I need a referral?

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you get a good faith estimate in writing before your first visit. If a bill comes to $400 or more above that estimate, you can dispute it under federal rules. Ask for the estimate when you book.

  • Checking your benefits

Before your first visit our billing manager asks your plan whether there is an out-of-network benefit, how many visits it allows and what you would owe, or asks the carrier about your claim, and tells you what he heard. If it changes, we call you.

  • What the first visit includes

About 60 minutes: a talk about your pain and what you take, a look at how you move, a first visit with needles if you both agree, and a suggested plan. Your acupuncturist explains the risks first. The fee is on your estimate or in your benefits check.

  • Medicare covers acupuncture only for chronic low back pain, with set limits and under a qualified provider's supervision. Ask us what applies to you.

Hurt in a crash or at work?

Call before your first visit and we check what your claim or health plan covers.
